1.7-Training and supervising the research team

The training included lectures and laboratory periods about the following:

  1. Introduction to the world of macroinvertebrates.
  2. The role of macroinvertebrates in nature and conservation
  3. Basic information on macroinvertebrates morphology and physiology.
  4. Identification of major macroinvertebrates orders using identification keys and field guides.
  5. Identification of major macroinvertebrates families, genera and species using identification keys and field guides.
  6. Training on where, how and when to collect macroinvertebrates. Including methods and tools of collecting and sampling.
  7. A field trip to the location of the study to implement the training.

      Dr. Ahmad Katbeh-Bader, insect taxonomist (University of Jordan), trained and supervised the research team. His duties included giving lectures and lab training for the research team, field visits every 2 weeks during the period of the survey, receiving the collected specimens at the University of Jordan Insects Museum, sorting, identifying specimens, shipping unidentified specimens for international specialists, and assistance in writing the study report.

        Professor Wolfgang Weitsbauer (Austria) also visited the team for several days and advised the team about the biology and ecology of many groups, he also helped in shipping of some groups to specialists in Austria, and other European countries.
