3.4-Light Trap Collection

      The aim of this activity was to estimate quality (number of species or species richness) and quantity (how many specimens a light trap may catch in certain time). The following 19 tables show the data obtained at different localities in the reserve. The location, total number of specimens, and number of putative species is given in the following table.

   The insect orders Diptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera had the highest species recorded through the whole light trapping that took place during the survey. On the other hand, the order Lepidoptera had the highest number of specimens collected although this order had a relatively low number of species recorded, see figure 4.

Figure(4):

       It was noticed that the number of specimens collected was very low early in the study because of the low temperatures, see figure 5. Another reason for the low number of specimens might be the windy weather at night. Those two factors affect the insects’ flight and so insects prefer not to fly through this inconvenient conditions. The low number of specimens in April does not necessarily mean that there was a low activity through this month. The main reason for the low number of specimens during that month is that no trapping has taken place because of the windy weather.
